Girl of the north country

If I had all the money in the world, I would spend it on winter clothes. Every year, I'm faced with the same dilemma. Too many sundresses, not enough wool sweaters. I love summer fashion, and it's so easy to be sucked into a bright floaty sundress, but I need new winter stuff.
I WILL invest in the following this year:
A Fair Isle Sweater

J Crew Girl's Fair Isle Sweater

Nothing says winter classic to me more than fair isle. For some reason it reminds me of Hermione Granger, so in my mind that's a bonus.
Quality Cords

Gap Always Skinny Cords

The knees are completely worn out on my hand me down cords that I love so much. Time for some new ones.
A Shawl Sweater

Gap Shawl zip Sweater

I've been pining after these for like 3 winters. It's time to get one!

Happy Decemeber!

Without you, today's emotions would be the scurf of yesterday's

Can I just say that whenever I watch the French masterpiece Amelie, I fall in love all over again.

It's so beautiful and bright and just all around a GOOD movie.
And she has mean style. I've always wanted to be able to cut my hair that short and wear some Amelie clothes.

Happy November!

The Fairest Of The Seasons

I am actually cold.
This is amazing. I go from sweating it out at near 100 degree heat to having to wear a cardigan and a scarf around my house.
I wouldn't have it any other way.
I love autumn. More than any other season. It's so cozy without being obnoxious. It means that I get to down cups of tea with my Nan and Grandpa and I get to wear the glorious invention that are flannel jammies.
Autumn always make me want to stay at home and hang out with my mom. Like usually I get into her bed on Friday nights to watch Datlines at 9 p.m then pass out at about 10. It's great sleeping weather.
More than anything else though, I love the clothes.Currently I'm looking forward to these items joining my wardrobe.
1. My Wonderful Array of Pashminas: They aren't technically Pashminas. They're more like Fashminas, but still. I have just about every color imaginable, my favorite being my purple paisley one and my red one. They go with ANYTHING

( I get mine from a website named Googdot. Looks skep, but really isn't! I swear!)

2. Cords: I. Love. Cords. Give me any color and I'll wear them. My favorite pair are gray, but they're fading and old. So I have to get new ones.

Old Navy

and 3: My beloved Slouchy Gray Pirate Boots: God I love these things.

Happy Autumn to all!
well to all those experiencing Autumn.....

Come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me.

School started about a month ago. Usually school and I don't really agree with each other.
But this year! Man, do I love it. I'm taking the best classes from the greatest teachers, really nothing could be better.
This outfit was from my first day of school. I fell in love with the sailboat shorts, so cute and the ruffled cami is a really good staple to have!

Both shorts and cami from Lands End Canvas

My favorite class has to be Textiles. I mean, 50 minutes devoted to sewing?? Perfect and really relaxing.
My first project was to take our initials and make them into something interesting. My friend Tanehisi made a flower with her T as the stem. My friend Brittany made a burger for her B.
I had the theme of dairy for obvious reasons.

Oh, it's good to be in school.

Don't let those swill merchants rewrite you.

Have you ever had one of those movies you just cannot stop watching?
I have that with Almost Famous.
Something so perfect needs to be watched again and again. Almost Famous has some of the best quotes in my little mind bank of movie quotes, some great fashion and a great story.

Patrick Fugit is such a cutie in this movie. God I just love him.

Kate Hudson's character Penny Lane inspired me to get this haircut. It didn't look that great on me, but I love it on her. Penny Lane is also maybe one of the coolest women in all contemporary movie history.

My favorite "Band Aid" was Polexia, played by True Blood's Anna Paquin. I especially love the dress she wears in this picture.

Lester Bangs, played brilliantly by Phillip Seymour Hoffman, said it best. "The only true currency in this bankrupt world... is what you share with someone else when you're uncool."

Pray make no mistake, we are not shy; we're very wide awake

The sun, whose rays
Are all ablaze
With ever-living glory,
Does not deny
His majesty
He scorns to tell a story.
He doesn't exclaim,
"I blush for shame,
So kindly be indulgent."
But, fierce and bold,
In fiery gold,
He glories all effulgent.
I mean to rule the earth,
As he the sky
We really know our worth,
The sun and I.
Observe his flame,
That placid dame,
The moon's Celestial Highness;
There's not a trace
Upon her face
Of diffidence or shyness:
She borrows light
That, through the night,
Mankind may all acclaim her.
And, truth to tell,
She lights up well,
So I, for one, don't blame her.
Ah, pray make no mistake,
We are not shy;
We're very wide awake,

The moon and I.

-The Sun Whose Rays Were All Ablaze from The Mikado
I have had this committed to memory since I saw the film Brick in 2006. It translates wonderfully into poetry.

I tried to be like Grace Kelly

Uh, who DOESN'T want to be like Grace Kelly?
One of my favorite things to do is paw through my mom's old issues of Oprah Magazine. Seriously guys, it's a great magazine. Amazing book recommendations and cool fashion spreads.
I came across this specific spread two days ago and I've been in love with it ever since.
January Jones as Grace Kelly? What could be better??

Everybody come outside

Starting up this blog again led me to my newest craze, trying to be more fashionable in a different way.
I get stuck in this rut of wearing the same 5 or 6 pieces of clothing until they become stale, or worse people notice. After reading countless blogs about fashion, I took a step and fished out a dress from the back of my closet. A dress I didn't think looked good on me and one I only wore once.

I got this back in my Paisley Period in ninth grade. I bought anything that was paisley. It was an addiction.

And can I just sing the praises of this belt? It was a hand me down from my Nan and I wear it with anything and everything

Dress: Forever 21, Belt:Talbots

So thank you, all of you wonderful fashion bloggers.

All year long we wait for sun. At the beach we come undone

My family and I made our 14 hour summer trek to Pawley's Island, South Carolina.
It's about an hour outside of Charleston and a truly beautiful place.

It was full of beautiful houses.

And antique stores...

I got a ton of reading done in this here hammock

And I'm just gonna plug the Old City Market in Charleston, S.C. It has maybe the best selection ever and I made these GREAT finds for fairly cheap!
(these finds will be a part of a separate post, as my camera is being stupid right now.)

I had to use this postcard as there were about 8 million people standing outside the Market and it didn't make a good picture!
Definitely go there if you are ever in the Charleston area. They have cheap Pashminas, sundresses and great jewelry!

This summer I can't get enough of Alfred Hitchcock's movies.

"can we just call them cake spheres?"

Never ever ever watch Food Network when you are hungry. It's a truly terrible combination.
You end up calling your best friend, in my case the wonderful Mr. W, and forcing him to make something Cake Balls.
A destroyed sheet cake+icing+chocolate coating. Nothing in my life had ever looked so appetizing. Here is the link to the original recipe!
And they were fun and easy to make, so I see a lot of Cake Balls in my future.
