any time gone by was better--jorge manrique

When I heard the quote from Jorge Manrique, I realized that's how I've lived my life.
Especially concerning fashion. Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of things about the present day; shorts, women's rights, indoor plumbing, medical advances. You know, the good stuff. What I really yearn for is the fashions from the past. While I was tumblr surfing, I discovered Historical Fashion Tumblr. I check it constantly. Below are my favorites

I want to wear allllllll of these.
Do you have a favorite historical fashion?

braided.

After my last post, I decided to take more challenges with my hair. Do new things. Try something different. Thats when I discovered The Boho Braid, yet another creation from Lauren Conrad's The Beauty Department website (see below post)
This is my somewhat successful attempt at The Boho Braid

I really try to not wash my hair everyday, because I'm trying to grow my hair out. But my hair gets greasy as all get out. This hairstyle somewhat conceals it...
Do you have a go to hairstyle?

lethargy

I can't even lie and say that my summer vacation has behttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifen busy. I've been doing so very little that I'm actually amazed. I've read, gulped down sparkling lemonades from a local ice cream joint and watched endless Law and Order SVUs, Twin Peaks and Golden Girls episodes.
But I haven't blogged.
BUT! I am still here.
I've been keeping up wit the fabulous site The Beauty Department, and Lauren Conrad recently tie dyed the tips of her hair. I have totally fallen in love with this idea.

I'm going to do this. It's a good way to start off my Senior year of high school. A little something zany. A little quirky.
Wish me luck!
Photos to come!

I will be good.

Currently I'm reading a biography of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, called We Two by Gillian Gill.
Of course, this makes me think of the movie The Young Victoria, which in turn makes me think of the beautiful clothes in the film. If it didn't make me look like a freak, I would totally rock a Victorian gown. Naturally I can't. But I was flipping through the May 2009 issue of Vanity Fair (I hoard them. I have stacks of them in my room. It's a little ridiculous.)and I saw the Michael Roberts spread of Emily Blunt, in Victorian inspired gowns.

Back in March I was looking for fabric for my Junior Prom. I found this gorgeous polished cotton that I instantly fell in love with. I thought of this layout.

Did I go to that prom? Well no. I didn't. BUT! I will make this polished cotton into something spectacular for my senior prom, inspired by Queen Victoria!!!

"we've become a race of peeping toms"

Watching Rear Window, I'm reminded how much I want to be Grace Kelly.

I once was lost, but now am found,

For a while, I was pretty lost. My life hit a turning point in the spring of this year. I suffered loss of friends, close and not so close. It was as if this was a sign that I needed to grow up. April was a test for me.
But now. I'm ok. I chose what path I was going to go on. http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifI went back to the things I knew for sure. My friends I love unconditionally. Reading. Embroidering. Watching old movies.
I feel at home again.
Here is my latest embroidery project. A sweet mermaid I found in Doodle Stitching The Motif Collection by Aimee Ray

Happy June!!
